shouting, not pouting.

Angry girl-woman yelling into the void, distributing rage & things that make her smile in equal amounts.

These old anti-suffrage posters are hilarious. HOW CAN MEN HANDLE BABIES?!

“Anti-suffragists drew heavily on the Victorian ideology of ‘separate spheres’… Their use of it led to the claim that female enfranchisement would sexualize politics and unsex women, confusing the proper boundaries of masculine and feminine, public and private, domestic and political, by which the natural complementarity of a harmonious social order was maintained.”
This attitude was reflected in the suffragette caricatures drawn in newspapers and magazines. According to Tickner, depictions of spinster suffragettes were normally slender in a time when curves were celebrated; their faces likewise were severe and gaunt, “the lines of disappointment etched deep by the illustrator’s pen.” The spinster suffragette’s clothes and physical appearance emphasize that she is a failed woman and wannabe man. The lady wants to vote because she couldn’t get a date.

Hehe. I love this picture.

Literally a martyr complex

When I was in 7th grade I was lucky enough to go on a school trip to Normandy. I came back and announced to my mother that I wanted to be Joan of Arc when I grew up. I think that was when she started worrying about me.

Random recollection…

I was in a store (I think it was Target but I don’t remember) and went past the baby-clothes section. The outfits for 0-6 month old girls were all pink, covered with pastel kittens and puppies and whatnot, and said things like “Daddy’s Little Princess” and “Mommy’s Little Angel”.

The ones for boys? All different bright, cheerful colors and said things like “Future Rocket Scientist”.

Anyone who tells me that little girls naturally prefer pink or are bad at science is going to get PUNCHED.

This is how my Nan was banned from Church

My sweet, elderly nan was banned from the Catholic church because she interrupted a sermon and told the entire congregation to go to Hell after they shunned my Uncle for coming out. She also called the Father (or whatever) a cock sucker, and said she was proud her son was one. (Ha!)

So yes, my nan is a total BAMF and there should be more people like her in the world.

“Immigraniada (We Comin’ Rougher)” by Gogol Bordello

yytsirk:

“and what we look like is more important than what we do and if we get raped it’s our fault and if we get beaten then we must have provoked it and if we raise our voices we’re nagging bitches and if we enjoy sax we’re nymphos and if we don’t we’re frigid and if we love women it’s because we can’t get a “real” man and if we ask our doctor too many questions we’re neurotic and/or pushy and if we expect childcare we’re selfish and if we stand up for our rights we’re aggressive and “unfeminine” and if we don’t we’re typical weak females and if we want to get married we’re out to trap a man and if we don’t we’re unnatural and because we still can’t get an adequate safe contraception but men can walk on the moon and if we can’t cope or don’t want a pregnancy we’re made to feel guilty about abortion and.. for lots and lots of other reasons we are part of the women’s liberation movement.

  • Reporter: So, why do you write these strong female characters?
  • Joss Whedon: Because you're still asking me that question.

"The products involved in douching have historically functioned to scare women into believing that their all-natural ladyparts are dirty, smelly, unpleasant, and unfresh. These same products have actually rendered many a woman’s perfectly wonderful ladyparts unhealthy, painful, and infected by their very use. (Check out some vintage ads that touted Lysol as the cure for lonely, dateless, stanky ladies if you’d like some visual proof of the ways women have been shamed into using these unncessary products.) Douches and douchebags are a pointless, irritating, unfortunate, and generally toxic enemy of women throughout history. A Tool of the Patriarchy. A menace to women’s autonomy and well-being. Something that should not come into contact with a smart, self-respecting woman’s body. Tell us again why we shouldn’t use the term to refer to people who share those same characteristics?"

Bitch (via skirtonfire) (via giftedboi)

A good screed on why using the phrase “douchebag” isn’t offensive to women.
